SPORTING BV is player-first, which means our #1 goal is to advance athletes in our program as quickly as possible.
We strive to give all our players the opportunity to display their talent. If your athlete can't be ID'd, their hard work/talent won't matter.
That's why we've built a network of college and pro staff that allows for constant ID from NCAA schools and the Sporting KC Academy. If you're talented, you'll be seen!
Sporting BV offer to unique pathways to a higher stage:
SBV PREMIER - COLLEGE - PRO
SBV PREMIER - ACADEMY - PRO
Sporting BV regularly sends 50% or more of its boys and girls U19 top team rosters to college programs, and has supplied more players to the Sporting KC Academy than any other organization or club, including 40+ SKC Academy players in the last six years.
Sporting BV is player-first! If you are good enough to play at a high level, you can do it in blue!
Since our inception, Sporting BV has supplied more players to the Sporting KC Academy than any other organization or club.
In the last six years, we have sent 40+ Sporting BV players to the SKC Academy, including seven (7) from our 2010s and seven (7) from our 2006s.
PLAYER FIRST PHILOSOPHY: We want to win, but winning is secondary to giving your athlete opportunity!
We would rather advance your son to the pro/pre-pro route than anything else. That's why our Premier program exists - to provide your athlete the opportunity to play at any level he desires, even if that means foregoing a "superteam" that wins relentlessly.
Our goal with Sporting KC has been to deliver as many top prospects as possible to their platform, and we're constantly setting up trials with the SKC Academy so players can be ID'd by SKC.
This starts at the top with SBV Executive Director Peter Vermes, and extends to all our coaches practicing as a pool (not separated by team) and giving players guest playing opportunities to play at a higher level on a monthly basis.
At Sporting Blue Valley, we offer a complete player pathway from youth to professional levels with a strong commitment to our player-first philosophy.
As the official affiliate of Sporting Kansas City, our main focus is creating a real pathway to professional opportunities. Our players compete at the highest level of youth soccer in the US through MLS NEXT, ECNL, National Academy League, and ECNL-RL platforms, with placement based on their timeline and skill level. These platforms, along with our Premier program, help players develop during their key years of growth (U13-U19).
Our relationship with Sporting Kansas City has sent more Academy players than any other club or organization, with 40+ current SKC Academy players coming from our program. We focus on player growth over relentless winning, actively creating chances for talented players to move up through our system. We regularly set up trials for promising players, opening doors to higher levels of competition and professional opportunities.
Our pre-professional and professional pathway is central to Sporting Blue Valley's identity. Players like Jacob Bartlett, who started with us, moved to the SKC Academy, advanced to the Sporting KC first team, and recently played against Lionel Messi, show what our pathway can achieve. This direct connection to Sporting Kansas City offers unique opportunities for players looking to reach the professional level.
While our professional pathway is our primary focus, we also maintain a strong College soccer pathway. We understand that most players don't want to play SKC 1st team, and college is the goal. Which is great! Our commitment to player development helps many of our players compete at top Division 1 Colleges and Programs across the country.
Through our wide college network, our coaches and staff help provide our players with the best opportunities for college success. We take pride in helping players advance to the college level while keeping our main focus on professional development.
Sporting Blue Valley has built on our badge as Sporting Kansas City's largest affiliate to create a complete pathway to a professional career. This unique affiliation shows our dedication to providing exceptional opportunities for player advancement at every level. All these opportunities align with our player-first growth approach and commitment to enhance the players' experience both on and off the field.

Coach Camilo Benitez played for the Real Madrid Academy in Spain, played a stint at the AC Milan Academy, and then played for Sporting Kansas City Academy for 4 years and concluded his career with 2 years professional.
Coach Camilo is currently the head coach of all Academy youth boys at Sporting Blue Valley and the technical director for their MLS NEXT teams. His passion for playing turned to coaching, and each summer for the last five years he's focused 100% of his effort into helping players grow over the off-season through his ALL-IN program.
Coach Benitez is an extremely sought-after coach in the Midwest, and has the ear of all the top directors in youth soccer. He knows the game as both a Player and as a coach.
Ibrahim grew up in Bamako, Mali on the west side of Africa, where soccer was everything to him and his friends. He played with a soccer ball made of plastic, and every day he and his friends would look for four big rocks to make two goals on the street!
Coach Ibrahim played with his friends every day, and his love for the game brought him to the United States, where he made two appearances as a rookie in 2003 with New England Revolution of Major League Soccer, before moving on to Milwaukee Wave United of the USL A-League in 2004.
He played several seasons of indoor soccer with Baltimore Blast, the Kansas City Comets, and the St. Louis Steamers of the Major Indoor Soccer League before signing with Crystal Palace Baltimore of the USL Second Division in 2007. He even scored Baltimore's first ever professional goal, a thunderbolt free kick from the edge of the box in a pre-season friendly!
He closed his professional playing career in 2013 with the Kansas City Comets, which brought him to Kansas City.
After his playing career wrapped up, he began coaching. He coached for over a decade at Kansas Rush, and made the move to Sporting Blue Valley two years ago and now he coaches six Sporting Blue Valley premier teams
Coach Ibrahim Kante is a pillar of our community here at Sporting Blue Valley, and he has already made a huge impact for our Premier teams, special programs like Skills Club, and is highly requested for private trainings.
Growing up in Mali and working hard to get where he is today made him the player, coach, and dad he is to his two kids Nango and Aissata
I grew up developing my skills within the Sporting KC system, where I earned Academy Player of the Year honors in 2019. This recognition highlighted my dedication and ability at the youth level before I advanced to collegiate soccer at Liberty University, competing at the NCAA Division 1 level.
My youth career includes significant international experience representing the United States, including two USYF National team trips where I served as captain for competitions in both Costa Rica and Argentina. These leadership roles helped shape my understanding of what it takes to succeed at the highest levels. I've also been part of teams that captured 7 USYF National Championships, experiencing firsthand what it takes to compete and win at elite tournaments.
My personal journey through elite youth development and college competition gives me firsthand understanding of what players need to progress through each stage of their soccer careers. Having experienced high-level training environments myself, I can better prepare young athletes for the technical demands and mental challenges they'll face as they advance.
I bring tremendous passion to developing players each and every day, focusing on building both individual skills and team understanding. While I share my knowledge and experiences with players, I also continue to grow as a coach by learning from other experienced coaches.
This commitment to ongoing education ensures players receive training that combines proven methods with fresh, innovative approaches to the game.

I grew up in the Johnson County area, developing my soccer skills from an early age. My youth career began with Kansas City Attack, where I honed my fundamental abilities before earning a practice trial with Sporting KC Academy. This experience ultimately led me to Sporting Blue Valley, where I continued to develop as a player.
My soccer journey continued at the collegiate level, where I competed in the NAIA. After college, I expanded my playing experience in both the Major Arena Soccer League 2 (MASL 2) and the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL), gaining valuable perspective in different competitive environments.
Soccer remains my lifelong passion, and I'm committed to helping players grow through the sport. My Spanish-speaking background brings a unique perspective to coaching, blending both technical Latin American style with American tactical approaches. Players benefit from this dual approach to the game, learning creative skills alongside disciplined team play. I work hard to make training fun while building skills that help players succeed both on and off the field.

Juan Pichardo is the owner and president of FRT Fit. As the owner of FTR, Juan has turned his childhood love of basketball into effective training programs for youth athletes as well as group training classes with personalized programming for adults.
Juan can’t remember a time in his childhood where he wasn’t playing basketball. He continued his love of the sport through high school, but tore his ACL as his high school basketball career ended. Faced with a 9 month recovery, Juan also had to admit being 100 pounds overweight was keeping him from his dreams. Juan recovered from his injury and on his own, lost that 100 pounds. The process wasn’t linear but he persevered and over the course of a few years reached his goal.
Juan also started running as part of his weight loss effort and ran his first marathon in 2021. During this time, Juan learned patience and that it takes time and persistence to achieve a goal . Through life trials and tribulations, he learned the process to accomplish and achieve goals. He didn’t want to keep the same regrets he had when he was younger and didn’t want that any to be his life.
In 2020, Juan created his vision of FTR and the doors to the first physical location opened in 2022. Drawing from his personal experiences as well as his work experience at other gyms and as a trainer, Juan has created a program that is designed to give youth athletes the skills, endurance, confidence and fortitude to excel not only in sports but in life as well.

I'm Tommy, a 22-year-old Kansas City native with deep roots in the local soccer community. My playing career has followed a path through premier youth development into collegiate competition.
My soccer journey began with Sporting Blue Valley before advancing to the Sporting KC Academy, where I spent 8 formative years developing in one of the nation's top MLS youth systems. This experience provided me with professional-level training and understanding of development pathways.
I recently completed my collegiate playing career at Drake University, competing at the NCAA level for 4 years. During my time at Drake, I gained valuable coaching experience serving as a goalkeeper coach with Sporting Iowa, a Sporting KC affiliate club. This dual role as both player and coach has given me unique perspective on player development and the technical aspects of the game.
My background combines high-level playing experience with practical coaching application, allowing me to relate to young players while effectively communicating important technical and tactical concepts. Having progressed through the same development pathway myself, I understand the challenges players face and can provide guidance based on personal experience at each competitive level.
PER MLS: "MLS NEXT also announced the division structure and participating teams in the new tier of competition, which was previously unveiled in January. The new tier will feature more than 1,200 teams from more than 220 clubs across regional divisions during the regular season. Of those clubs, more than half previously competed outside of MLS NEXT. Each division will be managed by leading league operators across the youth landscape with a strong commitment to player development – the National Academy League (NAL) operated by 3Step Soccer, Elite Academy League (EAL), Sporting Development League (SDL), CobaltSports, and Cal North Soccer Association.
Regular season play will begin in September 2025, which will be accompanied by regional tournaments and an opportunity to attend MLS NEXT national events, as well as coaching development and education programs. The regional tournaments will serve as qualifying for a championship event at the MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs later in 2026. These events will be marquee talent identification opportunities for college, professional, and national team scouts to evaluate players. Players competing in the new tier will also be eligible to play high school soccer."
Sporting Blue Valley will join this newest tier of the organization, competing against qualified teams in structured competition. The national identification and resource benefits remain consistent across platforms, though our teams will not compete against USL teams, Academies, or Tier 1 teams at this stage.
As part of the MLS NEXT Heartland Conference, Sporting Blue Valley players will compete against premier talent in a structured regional format.
Heartland Conference:
• Lou Fusz Athletic
• Lou Fusz Athletic 2
• Sporting Blue Valley
• Sporting City
• Sporting Springfield
• Sporting Wichita
• St. Louis Development Academy
• St. Louis Scott Gallagher
• St. Louis Scott Gallagher St. Charles
• Sting Nebraska
Speaking on the boys side specifically, there are lots of excellent platforms for youth soccer in the United States. ECNL has been around for some time and is the top level on the girl's side, which is why our girls play there. Elite64 is also quality, we will play that platform until May 2025.
Both of those platforms are good, but MLS NEXT is a step up from that. There is a reason the Sporting KC Academy and top clubs around the United States join as soon as they get the invite.
ECNL is an incredible platform, but the ID opportunity offered by the MLS NEXT platform on the boys side specifically is unmatched by any other program because of the connection MLS NEXT has to the Academy platforms of every MLS team, direct contacts at every pro club in the United States, and the MLS brand attached to it.
This is why we chose to place our boys in the MLS NEXT platform, because it is the top level of boys soccer in the United States, and it's why our girls play ECNL Girls, because it is the top level of girls soccer in the United States.
Elite64 is also a good platform, but doesn't have the established ID opportunities and connections that the more long-time clubs do.
There are lots of opportunities for advancement down the USYS State and Regional tournament paths, but the connections and IDs aren't as accelerated as MLS NEXT. They just don't have the competition needed yet to be at that level, and we know that from experience since we were a founding club in that platform.
Like we said, all platforms in this area have something to offer and they're all a step up from local premier play, but MLS NEXT had the most opportunity for our players to be identified and the highest level of local competition after the others pulled out of their current platforms, so we accepted the invitation and are excited to offer it this season!
(Plus, the MLS next brand has already drawn in some top coaching names from the area, which we've added to our staff below and will be joining us in the Fall 2025 season! We're so happy for our kids, and can't wait for our players to enjoy all the great things that come with this new platform.)
Regular season competition begins September 2025. Complete details, schedules, and logistics will be distributed well in advance, providing ample time for athletes and families to prepare and determine if this competition level aligns with their development goals.
Sporting Blue Valley's selection for MLS NEXT followed a comprehensive evaluation process assessing our specialized training methodologies, coaching expertise, player identification systems, facility quality, technological resources, and established player pathways.
Our invitation resulted from an extensive expansion process evaluating training plans, coaching quality, recruitment systems, facilities, technological resources, player pathways, and community engagement.
This thorough assessment confirms Sporting Blue Valley's position as a premier youth development organization prepared to ensure player success and safety at this enhanced competitive level.
Our move to the MLS NEXT platform gives our top two teams in the U13-U19 boys age groups much more than just league competition – it delivers quality matches, closer travel, significantly enhanced exposure, and personal development opportunity offered nowhere else.
Beyond regular season games, you'll get access to exclusive MLS NEXT ID events that attract the highest quality coaches in the country. You'll perform in front of crowds and the best-of-the-best in youth soccer at MLS NEXT regional tournaments and national events.
Let's be clear about the exposure: you get unmatched access to scouts who specifically target platforms like MLS NEXT, regardless of tier. The MLS NEXT brand draws quality attention that other leagues simply can't match.
At every event, you'll be actively evaluated by scouts from diverse soccer organizations - college, pre-professional, and professional - leading to tangible opportunities like tryouts, scholarships, and contracts. This visibility isn't just about being seen; it's about being properly assessed. The sheer number of coaches that MLS NEXT attracts ensures you're evaluated by multiple expert perspectives rather than just a handful of observers.
This level of competition stands apart. MLS NEXT isn't a league anyone can join – we had to pass thorough inspection, apply, and be specifically invited to participate. This attention to detail by MLS itself guarantees you'll only play against quality opposition. This means your talent ID happens while competing against top-tier competition that's been carefully vetted – not just any team with the financial means to join.
With this platform comes responsibility. We've already taken significant steps over the last 4 years to consolidate our curriculum so EVERY team benefits from elite coaching. We've merged player pools so age groups practice together, creating opportunities for guest playing, advancement between teams, and finding the optimal player-coach match to maximize your potential.
But we can't remain static – competing at this level requires continuously raising our standards. This means you benefit directly from our coaching staff's commitment to developing high-level training, conditioning, and competitive scenarios.
That also means that our coaching staff has improved remarkably in this transition. We've brought in former MLS Sporting KC first team players, a nutrition/SAQ staff for physical improvement off the field, and a team of coaches who have been around the block so you and your athlete can get the guidance you need to make decisions that are best for YOUR future.
We don't want it to get lost that this move is all about YOU! We worked hard to partner with Sporting KC on the SDL so a move like this could happen for YOU. So you and your player can get the exposure and opportunity he desires, to play at any level. It's now all possible, and the experience of our coaching staff & the guidance from some new faces on our boys side is there solely to benefit you and your athlete.
Perhaps most powerfully, this transition establishes a clear, direct path to the Sporting Kansas City first team. You now have a structured opportunity to play at the highest level of soccer in the United States. While this pathway has always existed and has been traveled by hundreds of players since our founding, there is now a CLEAR progression from Sporting Blue Valley through organizations like Sporting KC Academy and Sporting KC Second Team, providing genuine opportunity to reach the MLS First-Team.
For example, former Sporting Blue Valley player Jacob Bartlett, who this February competed against Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players in the history of our sport. Jacob began here and reached soccer's pinnacle without this structured pathway. Imagine what's possible with this stepping stone now in place!
It's important to understand that professional play represents just one potential outcome. We recognize that Sporting KC first team isn't the objective for everyone – and that's perfectly fine.
Our pathway now provides clear progression to whatever level aligns with your ambitions, allowing you to advance as far as you aspire:
• Want to play at this elite level and conclude your soccer journey at 18? You can do that!
• Aiming for NCAA or NAIA collegiate competition? The unparalleled ID opportunities through MLS NEXT provide exclusive access to college recruitment events.
• Interested in USL or SKC II competition? The path is clearly defined.
The foundation is now established – which means there's nothing preventing you from advancing as far along this pathway as your dedication and talent will take you.
Beyond regular competition, MLS NEXT membership provides access to specialized Talent ID events where college, professional, and national team scouts evaluate players in structured environments designed to showcase skills through targeted drills, scrimmages, and competitive situations against premier opposition.
Qualifying teams earn invitations to MLS NEXT Fest in December, a prestigious national event reserved for teams advancing through league play and regional qualifiers. This showcase places athletes directly before elite identification scouts from across the country.
Additionally, teams may qualify for the MLS NEXT Cup in 2026, competing against regional qualifiers for national championship honors.
Sporting Blue Valley will field twelve teams within the MLS NEXT structure:
• Six Sporting BV Academy teams (1st teams) competing in the MLS NEXT Competition Tier
• Six teams (2nd teams) competing in the National Academy League
What kind of travel expenses and fees are involved and are there financial aid programs available?
While we continue finalizing travel details and event specifics, current projections indicate reduced costs compared to previous platforms due to more efficient regional travel requirements.
Competition will focus on opponents close to home. Plus, all twelve teams will travel collectively, significantly reducing coaching expenses through coordinated transportation.
Financial assistance is available through the Sporting Blue Valley Scholarship Fund for qualified applicants, designed specifically to ensure deserving players have access to identification opportunities regardless of financial circumstances.
MLS NEXT participation will not impact high school eligibility. While younger age groups maintain year-round scheduling, high school-aged players begin their MLS NEXT season in winter following the conclusion of high school competition.
This transition represents strategic consolidation focused on a singular objective: advancing players to their chosen developmental level.
While our girls' program has benefited from ECNL integration for some time, allowing cross-platform curriculum collaboration and coaching strategy, this marks our first opportunity to unite two premier boys' platforms under unified organizational structure.
Beginning Fall 2025, our organization will feature:
• ONE girls' organization with two platforms: ECNL Girls and ECNL-RL Girls
• ONE boys' organization with two platforms: MLS NEXT Competition Tier and MLS National Academy League
This consolidation shifts our focus from fragmented scheduling, opportunity acquisition, and disconnected team operations to comprehensive player development throughout all age groups.
Each age group will function as an integrated player pool, with coordinated travel, synchronized practice schedules, and fluid movement between positions and platforms based on developmental needs.
This historic achievement for Kansas soccer provides both boys' and girls' programs with access to premier competition, identification events, regional and national tournaments, and complementary secondary platforms that strengthen overall player development. These secondary platforms create advancement opportunities for motivated players from second and third teams, enhancing our competitive depth while supporting first-team excellence.
This integration benefits our entire community:
• Coaches focus more effectively on player development
• Athletes receive identification at appropriate competitive levels
• Age groups function cohesively without artificial separation
